An AP on a Stick (APoS) survey mounts a real access point at the intended height and location so we measure coverage in the actual RF environment - critical for warehouses, factories, atriums and listed buildings.
Why APoS beats desktop-only design in warehouses
Metal racking, stock levels, high bays and moving forklifts change WiFi in ways a drawing cannot fully capture. An AP on a Stick survey puts a live AP (your chosen vendor or our test AP) on a pole at mounting height. We walk the aisles with Sidekick 2, then move the AP and repeat until the design is proven.
This is the standard approach for UK warehouse WiFi surveys, manufacturing plants, sports halls and any site where ceiling height or unusual materials make predictive modelling risky on its own.
What happens on site
- We agree candidate AP locations from a first-pass predictive model
- The AP is raised to the planned height and powered
- We record coverage, SNR and roaming paths at floor and scanner height
- Locations are adjusted until KPIs are met
- You receive heatmaps, a final AP map and install notes for your cabling team
Combine APoS with a later passive validation survey after go-live if stock profiles change seasonally.
Common questions
Do you supply the test access point?
We can use your AP model (preferred, so the antenna pattern matches the install) or a representative enterprise AP. Tell us the vendor on the quote form.
How long does an APoS warehouse survey take?
A single-aisle proof can be hours. A full distribution centre is typically one to several days depending on floor area and how many AP locations must be proven.
Can you survey while the warehouse is operating?
Usually yes, with a RAMS and escort. Moving stock is actually useful - it is the RF environment scanners will see.
