How to prepare for a WiFi site survey
A little preparation makes the survey faster, cheaper and more accurate. Use this checklist before our engineer arrives or before you send drawings for a predictive design.
1. Floor plans
Scaled PDF or CAD is best. Mark voids, risers and known brick vs plasterboard if you can. Fire plans are usable if nothing else exists - we will list assumptions. Upload files on the quote form.
2. Access and escorts
On-site surveys need walkthrough access to every area in scope, including comms rooms, plant and locked meeting rooms. Warehouses and hospitals usually need an escort and induction. Tell us out-of-hours constraints early.
3. Technical facts
- Current AP vendor and approximate count
- SSIDs that matter (staff, guest, scanners, clinical)
- Known problem areas in plain language
- Whether 6 GHz / Wi-Fi 6E is in scope
4. Success criteria
Agree what "good" means: for example voice-ready SNR, scanner coverage at 1 m height, or exam-hall density. If you are unsure, we will propose KPI defaults used on similar UK sites.
5. Safety
Share RAMS requirements, parking, PPE and any asbestos or airside rules. We will not survey areas we cannot access safely.

Common questions
What if we have no floor plans?
We can still do an on-site survey. Predictive design needs some scaled drawing - even a dimensioned fire plan is a start.
Do we need to provide credentials?
For passive RF mapping, not always. For active/associated tests we need a test SSID or guest account that will not disturb production.
